For vendors: why ship an MCP now
Dealers are starting to ask. Here's what an MCP gets you, what it takes, and how to get listed as agent-ready.
Dealers are already asking their vendors one question: "Do you support MCP?" Some are starting to write it into vendor requirements. Agents are already arriving at dealer websites and in dealer workflows, and they can only use the tools that let them in.
What you get
- Found by agents. When a shopper's agent or a dealer's own agent goes looking for a tool that can do the job, yours can answer.
- Listed as agent-ready. The directory is the public scoreboard dealers check. Shipping an MCP moves you to the top half of it, member or not.
- Fewer one-off integrations. Build it once instead of fielding the same request from every partner and every dealer group.
- Plugged into the gateway. Dealers can connect your tool through the gateway on their website, whichever website company they use.
What it takes
If you have an API, an MCP server is a thin layer on top of it. A competent team can ship a read-only server for one area in days. You don't need to reshape your data or adopt anyone's schema. What makes the difference is building it so agents understand it: how to build an agent-ready MCP.
If you want a head start, the docs include recommended tool names and data shapes for inventory, leads, service, deals, F&I and more. Use them where they fit.
